The Best Medicine

Georgie (second from left) at Whipps Cross

In the 1949, Staff Nurse Georgie Edwards won herself a place at St Bartholomew’s to train as a doctor. Her work also took her to Whipps Cross and to a Hackney GP’s surgery. Her time as a nurse convinced her to become the kind of doctor who always listened to her patients.

This is such a fascinating and warm book, one I acquired at Ebury and which is published today. Georgie’s memoir really is the best medicine!

Two great things

First, congratulations to Kerry Needham’s Ben, which is now a Sunday Times bestseller!

Also, happy publication day to Esther W. for her book If Only I Had Told – a harrowing memoir of being at the centre of Orkney’s satanic sexual abuse scandal back in 1991. Esther is an amazingly brave woman.

If Only I Had Told

Published in December

Two great – and very different – books published just before Christmas and well worth a read.

Evelyn Prentis’s Matron in Charge, about her years nursing in the Lodge, a home for elderly women of reduced circumstances. The fifth and final book in the series from this Sunday Times bestselling author.

Also, erotic memoir Can You Keep a Secret? by Katie Collins, telling the true story of life as a submissive.
